Christ-like Parenting
· Pray for Guidance. Never Discipline while Angry.
· Build the Self-Concept. Self-concept equals behavior.
· Share the Control: model, makes tasks fun.
· Offer Empathy, Then explain Consequences: ask “what are you going to do?” “Would you like to hear some ideas?” How would that work for you?”
· Share the Thinking: Let them find the solution.
· Turn every mistake or misbehavior into a learning opportunity.
· Children who act out really say “Please love me enough to set some limits!” They need rules and limits.
· “I hear big voices not whiney voices”.
· “I love you too much to argue.”
· Consistently meet basic needs.
· Distinguish between kids’ needs and wants.
· Set limits in a loving way once.
· Love them Enough to Take Care of Yourself.
· Replace anger and frustration with soft words and powerful yet kind actions. “A soft answer turneth away wrath” Proverbs 15:1
· Instead of threats or warnings, say uh-oh and take action. Use enforceable statements.
· Focus on Poor choices, not “bad” children.
· Actions speak louder than words. Don’t break a sweat. Never lose control. Never command.
· A child can never “make you angry”.
· Choose to parent as Christ would.
· Show forth extra love after discipline.
· “There is no discipline in all the world like the discipline of love. It has a magic all its own.” President Hinckley.
